SoLO’s Past Events

Amore e Morte on 29th March -a new venture for SoLO!  A lunchtime recital of Italian music directed by Bernard Tan was very well received and much enjoyed by all who attended.  £180+ was raised on the day – with thanks to the wonderful musicians who played and sang – and all who supported. Watch this space for another opportunity…..

Sing for SoLO on 17th March was another amazing evening which raised an enormous £1500 and counting…. Thanks to all who supported – DMC Choir, SoLO Choir, Reynalds Cross Choir were out in force – plus special guest singers.  With the SoLO tombola stall, pink pigs and Easter chicks – it was a very special evening!

February was Panto Time and we are indebted to Harlequinade for a fabulous performance and supporting SoLO to the tune of £500 – part of DMC support for SoLO for the year.  We have some very lovely friends!  The SoLO tombola stall also raised £147.56 – including some donations for refreshments – so a great result all round.  Grateful thanks to all who supported!

February was also the occasion for a curry get together at the B26 – which was brilliantly supported by 60 people who enjoyed wonderful curry and the 6-12s residential benefitted to the tune of £300.  Thanks to Kat and Jyoti for organising and to everyone who came and ate curry to support – what a hard life!

December was filled with Christmas festivities as you can imagine – and an amazing team of volunteers took over Santa’s Grotto at Chelmsley Wood Centre in the weeks leading up to Christmas – it was hectic, with glitter, sparkle and reindeer food everywhere – not forgetting all the excited children (and adults!) counting their sleeps until the magical night!  Projects held Christmas events, musical extravaganzas, Christmas parties and a wonderful time was had by all, at the same time raising funds to extend the opportunities we can give.

As well as this, we held a bag pack in Sainsbury’s the weekend before Christmas – to add to the support they are giving us for the year as their adopted charity.  All very festive, with the SoLO Choir featuring – and an amazing team of volunteers looking and feeling very festive as they helped shoppers with their bags and promoted SoLO at the same time – win win!

September was a busy month!  Fun in the Park on 18th raised £174.17 on the tombola stall – we were delighted to support this again as we have been a beneficiary in the overall funds before.  We also talked to lots of lovely parents and it was a good profile event.

Another wonderful opportunity came our way in September when two delightful people decided to celebrate their wedding at Dorridge Methodist Church and donate what they would have spent on a wedding venue – so SoLO and DMC were joint beneficiaries.  Guests were also invited to donate instead of wedding gifts so a double blessing all round and a truly joyful day.  £2500 came to SoLO – for which we are very grateful.

The London Parallel event was awesome – a team of SoLO members, volunteers and a volunteer team from Schaeffler trained and met together and participated in the first of these events at Olympic Park.  It was amazing – and we are going to do it all over again next year!  £630 was raised on Justgiving but it was the amazing spirit of this event that was truly inspiring!

The teas at Wren Hall in July were as awesome as ever – thanks to all who supported this – whether you baked for it, helped run the day or came and enjoyed the tea and cake on offer – we raised over £550 – which is brilliant!  It all helps the SoLO cause!

The Jitterbug Ball was definitely the event of the year on 10th June – a truly memorable night – with amazing dancing, singing, musical entertainment – and fireworks to boot!  With huge thanks to all who supported this event in whatever way, we raised an amazing £11,000!!  We couldn’t have done it without you!

The Dorridge Fun Run on 5th June was amazing – a sea of red SoLO t shirts, the SoLO Candy Floss Stall, the very busy Tea Room!  SoLO was represented everywhere and it was a really good day.  Thanks to all who supported in whatever way – we had runners, cyclists, walkers, stallholders, helpers, marshalls – it was brilliant!  As one of the benefitting charities yet again – we are so fortunate – we look forward to a share in the overall monies which will be wonderful for our members.  The candy floss stall raised £114 – what a lot of candy floss was made and enjoyed that day ………

The Transition Event was a great showcase for SoLO on 26th May.  We had a very busy time with the SoLO stall and the Plan4U team as well – the Virtual Reality experience was very popular!  With thanks to all who supported that day, we look forward to the next – but not for another year!

The SoLO Sponsored Walk at Baddesley Clinton on 23rd April was a lovely sunny day and with thanks to all who took part – we have raised £1500 and counting……. sponsor monies are still coming in.  Huge thanks to everyone who contributed on the day – we couldn’t have done it without you!

The Knowle Male Voice Choir Concert, featuring Solihull Choirs and our very own SoLO Choir was an amazing evening.  The SoLO Choir stole the show and folk were amazingly generous with the bucket collection at the end of the concert where over £200 was given.  The overall amount raised looks like £800 or so….watch this space.  Huge thanks to Knowle Male Voice Choir for linking with us for a wonderful evening.  We look forward to doing it again!

The Curry Night at Spicewoods recently was a great success – £330 raised – and a great time was had by all!  Thanks to Ali and his staff for a great evening.  And thanks to all who supported – you made such a difference!  Look forward to the next one!

The DMC Panto Ali Baba and the 4 Tea Thieves on 29th January was a runaway success – oh yes it was!  And SoLO will benefit from the proceeds of one of the performances – with thanks to all those who supported Jackie Staite and her merry band!   Over £200 and counting!

Wren Hall teas raised over £500 and lots of luscious cakes were baked and enjoyed :)  Thanks to all who supported. We are going to do it all over again in July this year – let’s see if we can top last year’s amount!

Dorridge Fun Run raised nearly £16,000 which was amazing – this was as a result of being one of the benefitting charities – but also because of the brilliant Lindsey who ran in the London Marathon for us.  We have such amazing supporters!

We are delighted to announce that the Sing for SoLO event raised £1300 and counting…………Huge thanks to all involved – it was a wonderful evening!

The Totally Arts performance was amazing – well done to everyone – what stars we have – look out for the photos!

Fun in the Park stall raised £250 and we are awaiting the outcome of the share in the overall funds raised as SoLO was one of the benefitting charities – thanks to all who supported the day.  We promoted the Whistle Stop Day – see below.

Whistle Stop Day was a wonderful feel-good day – and we raised £4700 – brilliant result!!  Thanks to all who supported – we couldn’t do it without you!

The Black Tie Event was a sell out!  A great evening was had by all!  Thanks to all who supported in the preparation and the evening itself.  We raised over £6500 – fantastic result!
